Ancient Stone Inscribed with Ten Commandments Sold for Over $5 Million
An ancient stone, believed to be the oldest known with inscriptions of the Ten Commandments, was sold at Sotheby’s in New York for $5.04 million on December 18. Dated approximately 1,500 years ago, the stone triggered a bidding war and will be donated to an Israeli institution by the anonymous buyer. Its historical significance was overlooked for centuries, having been used as a paving stone before being recognized for its importance. The stone features a modified version of the commandments, reflecting Samaritan beliefs.
