First Human Case of Bird Flu Confirmed in the U.S.
The CDC has confirmed the first serious case of bird flu in a human in the United States, linked to exposure from sick and dead domestic poultry. Despite this, officials assert that the overall threat to the public remains low as human-to-human transmission has not been detected. Health officials in Louisiana reported the case, which involved the D1.1 genotype, similar to cases in Washington State and British Columbia. The CDC has launched an online tracker for confirmed cases.
