Greece to Implement Automated VAT Penalties Starting January
Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will introduce an automated system for imposing VAT penalties, effective from the start of the new year. Penalties of €250 to €500 will be automatically applied when VAT declarations are submitted late, significantly speeding up the current process. Furthermore, the AADE plans to automatically collect VAT at the time of transactions using credit cards, aiming to enhance revenue collection from the current 80-85% to nearly 100%. These measures address annual losses of approximately €3 billion in public revenue from VAT.
