The Monreale cathedral in Sicily, known for its expansive Byzantine-style mosaics, has recently completed a significant restoration. This Unesco World Heritage site, built in the 12th century, features mosaics that span over 6,400 square meters, with around 2.2kg of gold used in their creation. The restoration, which took over a year, included cleaning the mosaics, repairing tiles, and updating the lighting system. Local experts led these efforts to revive the artwork’s original brilliance, ensuring its cultural significance is preserved for future generations.
