Discovery of 50,000-Year-Old Baby Mammoth Remains in Siberia

Russian scientists have revealed the nearly complete remains of a 50,000-year-old baby mammoth named Yana, found in the Yakutia region. Preserved in thawing permafrost, Yana weighed over 100 kg and was around one year old at the time of death. Locals discovered the find near the Batagaika crater, the largest permafrost crater in the world. While some parts have been damaged by wildlife, the specimen’s head remains remarkably intact. Ongoing studies at North-Eastern Federal University aim to uncover more details about Yana’s life and death.
