Two NHS hospital trusts in London are implementing an AI system, Aire-DM, to identify potential type 2 diabetes risk in patients up to ten years prior to diagnosis. Early findings indicate the AI can successfully predict risk in 70% of cases by analyzing ECG data, with further accuracy achieved by incorporating patient background factors. Clinical trials are set for 2025, and researchers are hopeful the technology will eventually enhance diabetes risk assessments across the NHS, potentially saving lives by facilitating early intervention.
