Russia Considers Blocking Voice Calls on Messaging Apps
The Russian Ministry of Digital Development and telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor are contemplating a ban on voice calls made through messaging applications, as reported by Kommersant. Potential scenarios include a total block on calls or a restriction on international calls, with the rationale framed as a measure against fraud. Currently, calls linked to fraud account for approximately 40% of such communications, with about 70% reportedly originating from abroad. The Ministry has stated it is not drafting regulations to restrict these calls.
