Singapore Proposes ‘Protection from Scams Bill’ to Combat Online Fraud

Singapore is addressing the rising issue of online fraud with the proposed ‘Protection from Scams Bill,’ aimed at safeguarding citizens from scams. Legal experts highlight that online scams have significantly increased due to Singapore’s high digital connectivity, with losses estimated at around 430 million Swiss francs last year. The bill would allow for the temporary freezing of bank accounts suspected of fraud, giving victims time to reconsider their decisions. The legislation is set for a second parliamentary reading in January.
