France Urges Immediate Reforms for Criminal Record Database Management

The CNIL, France’s data protection authority, has criticized the Interior and Justice Ministers for their mishandling of the “Traitement d’Antécédents Judiciaires” (TAJ) database. The TAJ contains sensitive information about crime victims and suspects, but the CNIL found issues with incomplete and inaccurate data, as well as inadequate communication with affected individuals. The authority warned that these shortcomings could severely impact job opportunities and administrative investigations. The ministries must comply with regulations by October 31, 2026, to ensure proper management of personal data.
