Gérald Darmanin, France’s new Minister of Justice, has proposed extending police custody in cases of aggravated sexual violence and femicides from 48 to 72 hours. This suggestion comes in the wake of the recent high-profile trial of Dominique Pelicot and 50 co-accused, where the court delivered significant convictions. Darmanin emphasized the need for society to learn from the trial and aims for the proposal to enhance investigative work on such sensitive cases.
