Christmas Traditions and Community Ties on Agios Efstratios Island
In a recent interview, Konstantinos Sinanis, the Mayor of Agios Efstratios, shared insights on the island’s Christmas customs and the close-knit community of approximately 100 residents. Although adverse weather conditions prevent outdoor activities, he humorously noted the winds. During New Year’s, he highlighted that every home is open for visits, reflecting the strong social bonds among locals. Sinanis also referred to the adage that suggests a preference for spending Christmas in the city and Easter in the village.
