Peru Closes 91 Ports Due to Severe Swell Conditions
Peruvian authorities announced the closure of 91 out of 121 ports in the country due to abnormal swell conditions affecting the northern and central regions. Access to beaches has also been restricted, and the departure of fishing and tourist vessels from the port of Callao has been banned. The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reports that these conditions, caused by persistent winds thousands of kilometers away from the U.S. coasts, are expected to persist until January 1, 2025, impacting coastal areas with waves reaching up to four meters.
