Syrian Information Minister Promises Free Press and Expression
Mohammad al-Omar, the new Syrian Information Minister, has pledged to establish a free press and guarantee freedom of expression in Syria, which has faced decades of media repression under the previous regime. In an interview, he assured journalists previously working under the regime of Bashar al-Assad that they would be welcomed back without being used as propaganda tools. Al-Omar, a member of the transitional government formed after the overthrow of Assad, aims to streamline bureaucratic processes for foreign media as part of rebuilding Syria’s media landscape.
