Road Safety Authority Reports 174 Fatalities on Irish Roads in 2024
In 2024, Ireland recorded 174 road fatalities due to 160 collisions, a decrease from 181 in 2023, as reported by the Road Safety Authority. The majority of deaths occurred in counties Dublin, Cork, Mayo, and Donegal. The statistics indicate a higher proportion of male victims and highlight concerning trends among young adults and evening fatalities. Minister of State for Transport, James Lawless, announced future measures to enhance road safety, including a reduced speed limit on rural roads starting in February 2025.
