New Syrian Transitional Government Offers Amnesty to Former Regime Soldiers
In the wake of the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Syria’s new transitional government, led by an Islamist coalition, is allowing former soldiers from the regime to regularize their status. Many former military personnel are gathering at reconciliation centers in Damascus to surrender their weapons and avoid legal repercussions. The process aims to provide legal protection to those whose hands are not stained with blood, while also issuing temporary identification cards to shield them from prosecution for three months.
