Alexander Martemyanov, an independent journalist for the Russian newspaper Izvestia, was killed when his vehicle was struck by a Ukrainian suicide drone in occupied eastern Ukraine. The incident occurred while he was returning from a trip to Horlivka, a Russian-controlled city, along with colleagues, several of whom were injured. The Ukrainian military reportedly targeted their vehicle, which was away from the front lines. Since February 2022, at least 15 journalists have been killed while covering the Ukraine conflict, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
