Study Reveals 24% of Freshwater Species Threatened with Extinction

A new study published in Nature indicates that approximately 24% of freshwater species are at risk of extinction. The research analyzed over 23,000 species and found that various factors, including pollution, dam construction, and invasive species, contribute to these threats. The highest percentage of endangered species belongs to decapod crustaceans, with 30% at risk, followed by freshwater fish at 26%. Researchers emphasize the urgent need to address these threats to prevent further biodiversity loss.
