Settlement Reached in High Court After Man Stabs Mother’s Partner Following Lack of Care
A High Court has settled a case involving a 19-year-old man, Adam Nolan, who fatally stabbed his mother’s partner, Bryan Cassidy, after being discharged from an emergency department despite exhibiting psychotic thoughts. The Health Service Executive (HSE) apologized for its failure to provide adequate psychiatric care, acknowledging deficits that contributed to the tragedy. Following the incident in February 2018, Nolan was found not guilty by reason of insanity. The HSE settled the case for €150,000, while reflecting on the lessons learned from this heartbreaking event.
