Navigating Identity: Young Black Voices in Rural Wales
Nyarai, an 18-year-old who moved from London’s diversity to predominately white Carmarthenshire, shares her experiences of feeling ‘exotic’ and different. Joining community groups like We Move has helped her connect with peers facing similar challenges in identity and racism. Project coordinator Molara Anwen emphasizes the need for anti-racism initiatives in rural areas, arguing that youth in these communities—where diversity is scarce—often struggle more with issues of identity. As efforts to address these challenges grow, young people are finding their voices and standing up against micro-aggressions in their everyday lives.
