US Charges Unveil Foiled Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump
US prosecutors have announced charges related to an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump and an Iranian-American journalist. The plot, reportedly directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), aimed to avenge the death of General Qasem Soleimani, killed in a US drone strike in 2020. Farhad Shakeri, an Afghan national believed to be in Iran, is accused of organizing the assassination plan, while two New Yorkers, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt, face charges for surveilling the journalist. US officials insist such plots highlight Iran’s threats against American citizens.
