Historic Floods Devastate South Sudan, Displacing Thousands

South Sudan is grappling with catastrophic floods, the worst in decades, which have affected 1.4 million people and displaced over 379,000, according to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The floods primarily impact the northern regions and 43 counties, including the disputed area of Abyei. OCHA reports a surge in malaria cases linked to the flooding, overwhelming local health systems and worsening an already dire situation. This disaster follows a previous estimate that reported nearly 893,000 individuals affected by the floods.
