New AI Tool Reveals Higher Prevalence of Long Covid in USA
Researchers from the Mass General Brigham healthcare system in the US have developed an AI tool to identify long Covid, finding that 22.8% of the population exhibits symptoms. Analyzing data from nearly 300,000 patients across 14 hospitals, the tool provides a more accurate estimate than previous studies, which suggested a rate of just 7%. This AI approach helps clinicians recognize more cases, potentially reflecting the true long-term impact of the pandemic. The researchers aim to share their algorithm with healthcare providers globally, despite some data limitations noted in the study.
