Spain Faces Aftermath of Devastating Floods with Rising Death Toll

Devastating rains in Spain’s eastern and southern regions have resulted in at least 222 fatalities, with 32 individuals still missing. Recovery efforts are underway in around 80 of the hardest-hit municipalities in the Valencia region, supported by nearly 20,000 military personnel and volunteers. Schools in some areas have reopened as cleanup continues, while further rainfall is expected. The Spanish government has announced an increase in flood relief funds by €3.8 billion, adding to the previously pledged €10.6 billion, amidst criticism of the regional authorities’ crisis management.
