SRF Journalists Face Penalties in Crypto King Case Amid Source Protection

Swiss public broadcaster SRF has accepted a fine for two journalists involved in a defamation case against crypto entrepreneur Dadvan Yousuf. To protect their sources, SRF will not contest the charges, leading to a fine of 10,676 Swiss francs for the journalists. While the prosecutor initially dismissed the case in May 2023, an appellate court found that the journalists failed to prove their defense. Yousuf claims the judgment highlights SRF’s lack of journalistic diligence and plans to pursue civil action against the station, while facing his own legal troubles in Bern for fraud and money laundering.
