Italian Police Uncover Major International Art Forgery Ring
Italian authorities have dismantled a large international art forgery operation linked to famous artists like Banksy, Warhol, and Picasso. Investigations, spanning Italy, Spain, France, and Belgium, targeted 38 individuals involved in art trafficking and counterfeiting, resulting in the discovery of over 2,100 fake artworks worth about 200 million euros. The counterfeit pieces, produced in six workshops across Tuscany and beyond, included forgeries of renowned 19th and 20th-century artists such as Monet and Van Gogh. The operation underscores the sophistication of art forgery and the risk of purchasing fraudulent pieces.
