At the recent International Climate Conference in Baku, experts raised concerns about the notable absence of many global leaders, signaling potential unease regarding its success. Kostas Kartalis, a professor from the University of Athens, emphasized the ongoing negotiations focused on addressing individual countries’ climate achievements, which added to the uncertainty. Despite these challenges, Kartalis affirmed the significance of the conference, as it is organized under the United Nations’ auspices, suggesting that discussions may foster quicker progress on addressing greenhouse gas emissions and embracing necessary adaptations to combat extreme weather events in cities unprepared for changing climates.
