Cyprus Commits to Global Carbon Reduction at COP29
During the COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijani, President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus emphasized the nation’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, despite its small carbon footprint. He highlighted Cyprus’s reactivation of a regional climate initiative aimed at fostering collaboration in combating climate change impacts through cross-border projects. Christodoulides expressed concern over escalating climate-related extreme weather events in the Mediterranean and outlined the country’s goal to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels as part of the EU’s legally binding commitment for net-zero emissions by 2050.
