Greece Launches Free Afternoon Surgeries to Reduce Wait Times
Greece’s Prime Minister announced the start of 37,000 free afternoon surgeries on November 28, aiming to reduce the waiting time for elective procedures to four months. Currently, 65,000 patients await surgery, with 37,000 expected to be accommodated in the upcoming program. The initiative, funded by a €57 million Recovery Fund allocation, targets those who have been on waiting lists for over six months. Additionally, the Ministry of Health is introducing a personal physician system, allowing patients free access to general practitioners and specialists.
