Former Soldier’s Actions May Have Compromised Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s Safety

In a trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Daniel Khalife, a former British army soldier, is accused of sending a fabricated intelligence document to Iran that purportedly endangered Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s life. The document claimed the UK government was unwilling to negotiate her release after her detention since 2016. Khalife has pleaded guilty to escaping from Wandsworth Prison but denies other charges, including communicating sensitive information and a bomb hoax. Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in Iran while visiting family and was released in 2022 after the UK settled a historical debt.
