Post Office Faces Major Job Cuts and Branch Closures in Strategic Overhaul
The UK Post Office is planning to close over 115 unprofitable branches, impacting around 1,000 jobs, as part of a significant restructuring aimed at improving financial stability. The review, led by new chairman Nigel Railton, follows a long-standing inquiry into the Horizon IT scandal that wrongfully prosecuted numerous sub-postmasters. Railton emphasizes the need for a new agreement centering on sub-postmasters’ roles. The government is also conducting a separate review on the future structure of the organization, alongside potential opportunities for Post Office branches to fill voids left by closing bank branches.
