Northern Ireland Teachers Unions Ballot for Potential Strike Amid Pay Dispute
Northern Ireland’s major teachers’ unions, including NASUWT, INTO, and UTU, are set to ballot their members on strike action due to unsatisfactory pay offers for the 2024-25 academic year. A fourth union, NEU, is considering holding a formal ballot as well. Teachers have expressed frustration over being the lowest paid across the UK, especially as their counterparts in England received a 5.5% pay rise. The ongoing pay disputes could extend to other sectors, including the Northern Ireland Civil Service, amid rising inflation and unfulfilled salary agreements.
