Advanced Research Towers Monitor Climate Impact on Mediterranean Pine Forests
In Halkidiki, Greece, a new research initiative is installing technology similar to that used in the Amazon to measure the effects of climate change on local pine forests. Led by researcher Mariangela Fotelli from the Greek Agricultural Organization, the project utilizes sensors on trees to monitor their growth and carbon-water interactions amid varying climatic conditions. Funded by the Greek Foundation for Research and Innovation, this innovative program aims to optimize the management of Mediterranean pine forests, ensuring their survival and resilience against environmental changes. Initial data collection began recently, promising insights into the ecosystem’s adaptability.
