Grapes and Distillation Yields Plummet in Soufli, Greece Due to Heat and Drought

This year’s grape harvest and distillation in Soufli, Greece, have been significantly impacted by prolonged heat and drought, leading to a reduction in yields by up to 50%. Christos Papatsarouhas from the Soufli Vine Growers Cooperative reported that while sugar levels in the grapes were elevated, the overall yield per hectare declined by up to 40%. Dimitris Petras, a distillery owner in Northern Evros, noted that adverse weather conditions contributed to poor fruit setting and overall lower production. The cost of distillation services now ranges from €21 to €23 per hour.
