European Commission Takes Action Against Greece and 12 States for Climate Plan Violations

The European Commission has initiated infringement proceedings against Greece and 12 other member states for failing to submit updated national energy and climate plans (NECPs). These plans are crucial for setting clear pathways to achieve EU goals on greenhouse gas emissions reduction, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. The deadline for submission was June 30, 2024, with only 14 plans received so far. The implicated countries, including Belgium, Bulgaria, and Austria, have two months to respond, or the Commission may escalate the process.
