National Geographic Unveils the World’s Largest Coral Reef in Solomon Islands
Researchers from the National Geographic Society have discovered the largest coral in the world, located in the Solomon Islands. Spanning 34 meters by 32 meters and older than 300 years, this giant coral is three times larger than the previous record-holder. Despite the threats posed by climate change, including coral bleaching, this resilient coral thrives in deeper, cooler waters. The discovery highlights the mysteries of nature still waiting to be uncovered, as local residents had mistaken it for a large rock. Scientists estimate that 8 million species remain undiscovered globally.
