US Nuclear Submarine Entangled in Norwegian Fisherman’s Net

A 22-year-old Norwegian fisherman, Harald Engen, made an unexpected catch this week when his vessel, ‘Øygut’, snagged the USS Virginia, a 115-meter-long American nuclear submarine. Engen and his crew were returning to shore near Sommarøya when they received a radio alert regarding the submarine caught in their gill net. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and the Norwegian Coast Guard was dispatched to free the submarine, which had recently departed Tromsø. The fisherman faces an estimated damage of 3,500 euros, with potential compensation available through the U.S. Navy.
