Gazprom Halts Gas Supply to Austria Amid Legal Dispute
Russian energy giant Gazprom will suspend natural gas deliveries to Austria starting tomorrow as a result of a legal battle that led to a €230 million fine imposed on Austrian energy company OMV. Austrian officials have expressed their belief that this development has long been anticipated. OMV, which has secured alternative suppliers including from Norway, asserts it can meet its contractual obligations to customers even if Gazprom’s supply is interrupted. The uncertainty remains over whether any gas will continue to reach Austria and how this will impact the existing contract between OMV and Gazprom, set to expire in 2040.
