Afghan Teen Nila Ibrahimy Wins International Peace Prize for Children

Nila Ibrahimy, a 17-year-old Afghan girl living in Canada, has won the International Children’s Peace Prize for her courageous efforts advocating for the rights of girls and women in Afghanistan. Nila gained recognition for her protest song, which went viral and inspired other Afghan girls to stand up for their rights amid Taliban restrictions. She was awarded the prize at a ceremony in Amsterdam by KidsRights, an organization dedicated to child rights. Nila hopes her voice will empower and inspire Afghan women during dark times.
