Agricultural Unrest in France: Coordination Rurale Blocks Supply Centers

On November 20, 2023, rural agricultural union Coordination Rurale initiated blockades at major supply centers in southwestern France, citing insufficient progress in addressing their concerns about European regulations and an upcoming trade agreement with Mercosur countries. Notably, union president Vincent Coco stated that no trucks were allowed in or out of a logistics platform in Mont-de-Marsan. Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard condemned the protests, insisting that while demonstrations are acceptable, lasting disruptions are not. Following these developments, the National Assembly will vote on the controversial trade agreement on November 26.
