Albanian Political Leader Calls for Dismissal of Language Law Challenges in North Macedonia

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the largest opposition party in North Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), urges the Constitutional Court to dismiss appeals challenging the law governing the use of the Albanian language. The court will review 13 appeals primarily filed by Slavic right-wing parties, including the VMRO-DPMNE led by Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski. The law, enacted in 2019, recognizes Macedonian and Albanian as official languages, reflecting the Albanian population’s significant presence in the country. Tensions have escalated following protests over the language law and previous ethnic incidents.
