Alcohol Consumption Among Swiss Teens: Trends and Insights from Valais
A recent report from the Wallis Health Observatory reveals that while alcohol consumption among 11- to 15-year-olds in Valais has decreased significantly over the past 20 years, it remains higher than the Swiss average. The 2022 study found that 28% of local teens reported drinking alcohol in the past month, compared to 20% nationwide. Notably, 23% of 14- to 15-year-olds engaged in binge drinking. Experts attribute the higher rates in Valais to its wine-producing culture and emphasize the importance of ongoing prevention efforts to promote safer substance use practices among youth.
