Amsterdam Offers Free Public Transport for Children Starting Summer 2025
Starting July 12, 2025, children in Amsterdam will be able to travel for free on buses, trams, and metros until January 3, 2027. This initiative, which costs the municipality €5.3 million, aims to alleviate financial pressures on families and encourage children to use public transport. The decision was backed by City Council member Farley Asruf and aims to expand upon previous short-term free travel arrangements for children aged 4 to 11. In 2023, approximately 17,000 children utilized the service, making nearly one million trips.
