Armenia Approves Bill to Apply for European Union Membership

The Armenian government has approved a bill calling for the country to apply for EU membership, deepening ties with the West at the expense of traditional relations with Moscow. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the process wouldn’t be quick and would require a referendum. The bill follows a successful application and aligns with Armenia’s desire to come closer to the EU, despite existing conflicts with Azerbaijan and the complexities of its current economic ties with the Eurasian Economic Union.
