Auchan Employees Protest Major Job Cuts Amidst Record Profits
Over 300 demonstrators gathered at an Auchan hypermarket in Clermont-Ferrand on November 15 to protest a proposed plan that will eliminate 2,400 jobs. The announcement follows a report indicating Auchan earned €1.5 billion last year and over €300 million in the first half of this year. Nicolas Delusier, a representative of the CGT union, criticized the decision as ‘incoherent,’ especially given the company’s profits. Employees from multiple Auchan locations, as well as supporters from the local community and Michelin workers affected by a similar layoffs, joined the demonstration to voice their dissent.
