Australia Moves to Ban Social Media for Kids Under 16
Australia’s Labor government is pushing for new legislation to prohibit social media use among children and teenagers under the age of 16. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that the law will not contain ‘grandparenting’ provisions, meaning existing users would not be exempt. Following a federal cabinet meeting, state leaders and community representatives will provide input on the policy. The restrictions are expected to take effect one year after the law is passed and reviewed. Albanese emphasized the importance of correctly implementing what he described as world-leading legislation.
