Australian ‘Bali Nine’ Criminals Return Home After 19 Years in Indonesian Prison
Five members of the Australian ‘Bali Nine’ drug ring have returned to Australia after serving 19 years in an Indonesian prison. Convicted of attempting to smuggle heroin in 2005, the group’s saga included the execution of two members in 2015 and spurred international scrutiny of Indonesia’s harsh drug laws. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for facilitating their return, highlighting ongoing cooperation between the two nations in combating narcotics trafficking. The men are now free and will continue their rehabilitation at home.
