Austria Faces Russian Gas Supply Halt Amid Preparation for Winter
Austria’s gas supply from Russia has been abruptly halted by Gazprom, which historically provided over 80% of the country’s imports. Chancellor Karl Nehammer assured citizens that the country is well-prepared, with gas storage currently at 93% capacity, sufficient for over a year. The cessation of Russian gas supplies stems from a legal dispute over €230 million in damages that Gazprom refuses to pay. Experts predict that while there will be no immediate gas shortage, prices are likely to rise due to the unexpected nature of the cessation.
