Azerbaijan’s President Slams France at COP29, French Minister Boycotts Event
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev criticized France’s colonial history and alleged ‘crimes’ under President Macron in a recent speech at COP29, highlighting tensions related to France’s support for Armenia. In response to these ‘unacceptable’ comments, French Minister of Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, announced her boycott of the conference, asserting that Azerbaijan is misusing climate action for political gain. Despite her absence, French teams will still participate in the event. Aliev also threatened to withdraw from the Council of Europe amid criticism of human rights violations.
