Ba’ath Party Suspends Activities Following Overthrow of Bashar al-Assad
The Ba’ath Party, which has governed Syria since the 1960s, announced today the suspension of its activities ‘until further notice,’ three days after the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad by a coalition of rebels. The party’s central committee decided to halt all operations and hand over its equipment and assets to the Ministry of the Interior, while financial assets will be overseen by the Ministry of Finance.
