Basel Historical Museum Validates Authenticity of Valuable Violin
The Historical Museum Basel has become the first museum in Switzerland to investigate the authenticity of a potentially valuable 18th-century violin by Nicolò Gagliano. This initiative is part of broader efforts to study provenance in the context of instruments that may have been looted during the Nazi era. The museum confirmed that the violin, previously owned by Henry Werro, is genuine and not associated with stolen goods. Overall, over 30 instruments were examined, with no evidence found of any wrongdoing regarding their ownership.
